The image above is the conceptual plan that I came up with for the kitchen. The only major change from this pic is that the eating surface will be more centered (opposed to an L-shape). The cooktop surface will be at standard 30" height, but the 4' x 5' eating area will be 9" higher and supported by (4) 39" wall cabinets.

We are using all Corian countertops, Frigidaire pro appliances (counter-depth fridge, dishwasher, cooktop, microwave, and double oven), Franke D-bowl sink, KWC faucet, Little Butler Instant hot water dispenser, 1HP InSinkerator garbage disposal, KitchenAid garbage compactor, and all IKEA cabinetry (Adel Medium Brown, if you're curious).

Before and During Shots:

From the front, we removed the peninsula island, all of the cabinets, appliances, and we will be replacing the tile floor with hardwood. We'll be installing 4" recessed lighting for general illumination, a pendant over the sink, and stainless steel pendants over the eating area.

Looking at the side, you can see how we knocked down the wall and fridge nook, opening up that half of the kitchen and exposing the "cathedral" ceiling. The purpose was to utilize that window and expand the space for the double oven and island.
